STURGEON MOON

Linocut (6 x 6 in), 2025.

The full moon in August is known as the Sturgeon Moon. The name comes from the abundance of Lake Sturgeon, known as “name” in Ojibwe, in the Great Lakes during the late summer months.

The full moon in August 2025, marked the exact one year anniversary since the last day of a set of experiments I had been a part of passing juvenile white sturgeon through hydropower turbines. I developed a relationship to sturgeon through that work.

This print was to honor and pay my respects to the sturgeon who gave up their lives for those experiments. Thank you.
