SEASONS AND CYCLES

Linocut on paper (11 x 11 in), 2025.

Seasons and Cycles is a double sided linoleum print that can be folded into a small card (known as a puzzle purse).

This piece depicts a variety of natural cycles: the lunar cycle, the sun, the life of a Pacific salmon, the blooming of a flower, and the four seasons as represented through California native plants and crops.

Clockwise from top left corner. Winter: manzanita and garlic, Spring: sticky monkey-flower and asparagus, Summer: blackberries and corn, Autumn: toyon and carrots.

The front side of the folded card is adorned with thistles.

This print is meant to be folded and given as a card. We often give cards to our loved ones in cycles: birthdays, anniversaries, holidays. This piece ties these personal traditions to the broader natural cycles we live within.

The motifs in "Seasons and Cycles” became somewhat of world for me. You’ll see some of the carvings from this card featured as illustrations on this website (like the “Simone Lassar” written across top). I also began making ceramic pieces featuring some of the characters and motifs from this print.
